Method and apparatus based on grouped zero tree wavelet image coding algorithm

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encoding a grouped zero tree wavelet image are provided to realize the high coding efficiency regardless of a scale of wavelet transform. CONSTITUTION: An optimum zero tree generator judges whether the current wavelet coefficients form at least one or more zero trees(70-71). If not, a zero tree coder independently encodes the current wavelet coefficients(79). If so, the optimum zero tree generator judges the number of zero tree routes(73). In the case that the zero tree route is 1, the zero tree coder encodes a single zero tree route(73,78). In the case that the zero tree route is more than 2, the optimum zero tree generator searches for a range of neighboring zero tree routes(75).
