Bioactive Biphasic Ceramic Compositions for Artificial Bone and Method for Making the Same

PURPOSE: A bio-active combined ceramics composition is provided to eliminate problems of conventional apatite ceramics and improve bio-activity by combining the apatite with wollastonite. CONSTITUTION: The composition is produced by combining the apatite(Ca10(PO4)6)X (wherein X is any one selected from O, (OH)2, CO3, F2, Cl2) and the wollastonite(CaSiO3) in weight ratio of 5:95 to 90:10; pressing the composition or conducting a molding process of the composition to obtain a porous form; and sintering the molded form at 1200-1400 deg.C. The wollastonite is generally synthesized by blending calcium oxide and silica in 1:1 mole ratio.
