PURPOSE: Provided is a composition containing an extract of the rhizoma of Cibotium barometz (L). J. Smith which has growth-promoting activity. Therefore, the composition is effective for prevention and treatment of growth disorders. CONSTITUTION: A crude extract of the rhizoma of Cibotium barometz (L). J. Smith shows prevention and treatment effects on growth disorders. A pharmaceutical composition contains 0.1-20 wt.% of the extract as an active ingredient. A health food contains the extract and food additives, and is formulated into powder, granules, pills, capsules and drinks.
