PURPOSE: Provided is a composition comprising a Cervus nippon extract, as an active ingredient, for treating or preventing epilepsy. The composition has GABA agonist effect. Therefore, it is good for prevention and treatment of epilepsy, seizure, convulsion and the like. CONSTITUTION: A composition for treating or preventing epilepsy is characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, a Cervus nippon extract which is obtained by extracting Cervus nippon with hexane, followed by re-extraction with chloroform and 70% ethanol and optionally isolation and purification by column chromatography or TLC.
