PURPOSE: A misfire detecting method of a vehicle and a fault diagnosis method of a crankshaft position sensor are provided to reduce exhaust gas, and to prevent damage of the catalyst by detecting misfire accurately with using discharge demand voltage within the entire range of operation. CONSTITUTION: Second discharge demand voltage of an ignition coil is measured in the ignition system of a vehicle(110), and the misfire number is accumulated according to each cylinder of the engine in case of the second discharge demand voltage to be more than the reference value(120,130). The misfire number by using the crankshaft position sensor is compared with the error range of the accumulated misfire number corresponding to the cylinder in satisfying misfire monitoring condition(140,150). The fault of the crankshaft position sensor is decided and the fault code is stored in the ECU(160), and alarmed to a user by turning on the warning lamp(170).
