PURPOSE: Provided is a method for preparing nitrogen fluoride from a fluorine reactant and an ammonium ion source dispersed in a liquid phase reaction mixture containing at least one perfluorocarbon fluid with high yield of about at least 80%. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of (a) providing a reaction mixture comprising an ammonium ion source and a perfluorocarbon compound wherein at least a portion of the ammonium ion source comprises a solid; and (b) introducing a fluorine reactant to the reaction mixture at a temperature of 90 to 120 deg.C sufficient to effect a reaction, thereby forming a nitrogen trifluoride product.
