Method for managing Operation Administration and Maintenance data in Asynchronous Transfer Mode exchange system

PURPOSE: A method for managing OAM(Operation Administration and Maintenance) data in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switching system is provided to effectively recover the OAM data when OAM data stored in an OAM unit are damaged. CONSTITUTION: In a back-up operation, a HDD(Hard Disk Drive) of an OAM unit sends OAM data to an agent at every pre-set period(302). The agent compresses the OAM data and transmits the OAM data to a switching system(304). A file manager stores the OAM data in the HDD(306). In restoring the OAM data, the OAM unit receives a restoration command from an operator and informs the switching system accordingly(312). The file manager of the switching system reads back-up OAM data stored in the HDD(314,316). The file manager transmits the read back-up OAM data to the OAM unit(318). The agent of the OAM unit decompresses the OAM back-up data and stores it in the HDD(320).
