PURPOSE: An image processing system and method, a projector, and a portable device are provided to automatically correct a horizontal trapezoidal distortion. CONSTITUTION: An image processing system includes a sensor, a histogram generator, a direction information generator, and a trapezoidal distortion corrector(140). The sensor senses a region to which an image is projected to output sensing information. The histogram generator generates histogram information representing histogram of the number of pixels in vertical and horizontal directions of the projected image based on the sensing information. The direction information generator generates orientation information based on a difference between an orthogonal direction from the sensing position to the projected region and a projected image direction from the sensing position to the central region of the projected image. The trapezoidal distortion corrector corrects a trapezoidal distortion of the projected image based on the histogram information and direction information.
