PURPOSE: A transflective LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) with improved color reproducibility and luminance and a method of driving the LCD are provided to improve the luminance in both of transmission and reflection modes. CONSTITUTION: A transflective LCD includes a timing controller(610), a switch(620), a gate driver(630), a data driver(640), an LCD panel(650), and a sequential back light unit(295). The timing controller receives video data and converts the video data. The switch is connected to the timing controller and decides the output signal of the timing controller according to whether a transmission mode or a reflection mode is selected. The gate driver receives a gate signal from the timing controller. The data driver receives a data signal from the timing controller. The LCD panel includes a thin film transistor substrate and a color filter substrate, which are combined with each other, and displays an image in response to a gate pulse and a data voltage provided by the gate driver and the data driver. The sequential back light unit emits red, green and blue lights in a specific order to irradiate the lights to transmission regions of pixels in the transmission mode. The sequential back light unit is turned off in the reflection mode.
