PURPOSE: A method for assigning channels of a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical transmission system having multi-transmission speed is provided to minimize the performance degradation due to raman crosstalk by assigning a low-speed channel and a high-speed channel to a long wavelength and a short wavelength, respectively. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of optical signals are received from a plurality of channels and the channel with the lowest transmission speed is selected from the remaining channels(S310). The channel with the lowest transmission speed is selected from the remaining channels and the selected channel is assigned to the longest wavelength band of the remaining bands if there are the remaining channels(S330,S340).
