ILLUMINATING DEVICE INCLUDING HIGH FREQUENCY POWER UNITS FOR APPLYING HIGH FREQUENCY VOLTAGE TO DISCHARGE LAMP

PURPOSE: An illuminating device is provided to drive a dielectric barrier discharge type low pressure discharge lamp encapsulated with mercury at optimum conditions, by arranging a lighting device for applying high frequency voltages to the discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION: An illuminating device comprises a dielectric barrier discharge type low pressure discharge lamp(1) constituted by a tube type glass lamp vessel(10) having both ends with outer surfaces on which current conductor layers are disposed as electrodes(21,26); and a lighting device for applying a high frequency voltage between the electrodes at both ends of the dielectric barrier discharge type lower pressure discharge lamp. The lighting device has floating output type high frequency power units(81,82) where a neutral point of the high frequency voltage is grounded. The high frequency power units output a frequency of 40 to 100kHz.
