PURPOSE: A method for displaying a high-resolution video signal on a low-resolution display is provided by compressing and storing a captured high-resolution video signal. CONSTITUTION: A high-resolution video signal is split into a plurality of minimum coded units and compressed(301,302). An identifier is inserted into each of the compressed minimum coded units to generate video signal data(303), and the video signal data is stored in a recording medium(304). The video signal data is read from the recording medium and only minimum coded units to be displayed are selected based on the identifiers of the minimum coded units, reproduced and displayed(305,306,307,308).
