PURPOSE: A peer-to-peer communication system between optical network units on an ethernet-based passive optical network and a communicating method thereof are provided to support the peer to peer communication system between the optical network units by using an existing protocol on an ethernet-based PON(Passive Optical Network). CONSTITUTION: A peer-to-peer communication system between optical network units on an ethernet-based passive optical network includes a physical layer, a data link layer, a P2PE layer, and an FRM layer. The physical layer(11) receives a frame from an OLT(Optical Line Termination). The data link layer includes an emulation layer(12), a MAC layer(14), a MAC control layer(15), and a MAC emulation layer(17). The P2PE layer(13) is installed between the emulation layer and the MAC layer in order to generate and manage an address table and a mirror address table. The FRM(Frame Reflecting and Multiplexing) layer(16) is installed between the MAC control layer and the MAC emulation layer in order to perform an upper process and a lower process.
