PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing an optical coupling device, an optical coupling device, an assembly of the optical coupling device and a lens coupled optical fiber using the optical coupling device are provided to increase coupling efficiency by using a funnel-shaped waveguide. CONSTITUTION: A laser diode(250) generates a light(252) having a predetermined wavelength. A waveguide device(240) is separated from the laser diode(250) in a predetermined distance. The waveguide device(240) comprises a core(242) that is a path of the light(252) and a cladding(244) surrounding the core(242). An optical coupling device(210) is separated from the laser diode(250) in a predetermined distance. The optical coupling device(210) comprises a first surface(212) that has a convex shape having a predetermined curvature and facing with the laser diode(250) and a second surface(214) that couples to the core(242) of the waveguide device(240). The optical coupling device(210) further comprises a funnel-shaped waveguide(220) for coupling the first and second surfaces(212,214) and a cladding(230) surrounding the funnel-shaped waveguide(220).
