METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE CARGO CAPACITY OF A CONTAINER SHIP AND CONTAINER SUPPORT BRACKET

A method is disclosed for improving the cargo capacity of a container ship having its cargo space equipped with container support guides running over the entire vertical height of the cargo space, whereby the stowed containers (1) can be supported in the horizontal direction by means of the container support guides to the ship's hull structures. The method is implemented by way of dividing a container stack in its vertical height in two or more substacks by mechanically operable support means mounted on the ship's hull structures in a fixed or dismountable fashion so that the weight imposed by an overlying substack of containers will not be transmitted to the underlying container stack. The invention also relates to a support bracket (2) suited for implementing the method.
