PROPHYLACTIC AND THERAPEUTIC AGENT FOR DIABETICS, CONTAINING HERBAL EXTRACT OF MAGNOLIAE CORTEX, RHEI RHIZOMA AND PONCIRI FRUCTUS

摘要

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing, as an effective component, a herbal extract of soonkisan(as a kind of the medical prescription of Oriental medicine) is provided. The soonkisan containing an extract of Magnoliae Cortex, Rhei Rhizoma and Ponciri Fructus inhibits the increase of blood sugar levels caused by diabetics, lowers total cholesterol levels, HDL and increases neutral fat levels in the blood of humans without hepatotoxicity and is thus effectively used for prevention and treatment of diabetics and complications associated with diabetics. CONSTITUTION: The health supplementary food contains 0.5 to 50% by weight of an extract of Magnoliae Cortex, Rhei Rhizoma and Ponciri Fructus exhibiting prophylactic effect in diabetics and complications associated with diabetics, and a nutraceutically acceptable food additive, based on the total weight of the food. The effective dosage of the extract for prevention and treatment of diabetics and complications associated with diabetics is 100 to 1,000 mg/kg body weight/day.
