PURPOSE: A protection switch, an emergency switch, and a transformer tap transferring unit are provided to protect equipment by supplying power without control of a person, and reduce a power consumption by preventing power losses. CONSTITUTION: An automatic voltage regulator comprises input terminals(H1,N1) for inputting AC power; an emergency switch connected in series to the input terminal(H1); an auxiliary switch connected in series between the input terminal(H1) and a compensation transformer(10), or connected to the primary side of the compensation transformer or a main transformer(30) so as to drive a circuit; a protection switch(60) connected in series between the main transformer and a proportional transformer(20), and which prevents additional failure and power losses upon occurrence of faults and failure of the automatic voltage regulator; transformer tap transferring units connected to the proportional transformer so as to generate induction voltages to the compensation transformer; a control unit(70) operating by a micro processor; an output voltage detection terminal for indicating and detecting output voltage; a current transformer for indicating and detecting output current; and output terminals(H2,N2).
