PURPOSE: A transparent substrate for a surface luminescence device is provided to increase the luminance and the light efficiency from a light projecting surface by forming concave parts respectively having an oval section toward a light incident surface. CONSTITUTION: A transparent substrate for a surface luminescence device includes a light incident surface(21) and a light projecting surface(22) serving as a luminescence surface at the opposite side of the light incident surface. The light projecting surface has a plurality of concave parts(23) formed toward the light incident surface. Walls of the respective concave parts are in the shape of a part of an oval. Outsides(23a) of the respective concave parts are almost circular with respect to the light projecting surface. The concave parts is separated from each other. The oval concave parts has high luminance rather than other light projecting surfaces in any other sectional shape.
