PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling shared data between mobile terminals are provided to conveniently update an address book of a user terminal by using Bluetooth in case of a near distance and by using an SMS in case of a long distance. CONSTITUTION: When a user terminal starts operation, an address book of a different terminal desired to be shared for personal information is displayed on the user terminal(401). A user of the terminal selects a certain address desired to be shared for personal information from the displayed address book, creates a specific message and transmits it to a shared terminal of the selected address(402). The shared terminal receives the specific message from the user terminal(403) and determines whether a password of the specific message is identical to an agreed password(404). If the password of the specific message is identical to the agreed password, an address book message of the corresponding personal information is created and transmitted to the user terminal(406). The user terminal determines whether a response message arrives from the shared terminal(407). When the response message arrives, the received address book message is displayed on a screen of the user terminal and an address book of the user terminal is updated(409).
