PURPOSE: A method for optimizing a video screen is provided to confirm a frame to be displayed via a reproduction signal process or a data distribution of a field video screen in an optical disk device, and to determine whether to control the size of the video screen according to the confirmed data distribution, thereby controlling an aspect ratio of a video into a standard aspect ratio. CONSTITUTION: When a DVD(10) is inserted, a microcomputer(13) reads recorded navigation information, and downloads the navigation information in a memory(14). The microcomputer(13) retrieves/confirms aspect ratio information included in the navigation information, and retrieves/compares an aspect ratio of a video image reproduced from a VDP(Video Disk Play) system(12). If the aspect ratio information included in the navigation information is identical with the aspect ratio of the video image, the microcomputer(13) outputs an image having an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. If the aspect ratios are not identical, the microcomputer(13) controls the aspect ratio of the video image into an image size identical with the aspect ratio information.
