PURPOSE: A street lamp control apparatus and a street lamp control method are provided to prevent waste of power by performing a safety operation upon occurrence of power outage. CONSTITUTION: A street lamp control apparatus comprises a control computer having a system operating program embedded therein; a GPS receiver(210) for providing position information and visual information to the control computer; a remote communication unit(420) connected to the control computer, and which performs a bidirectional information receiving/transmitting operation through a radio communication; an RTC(470) for operating a clock; a memory unit for storing and managing operating condition, fault information, and history of a street lamp; an input/output unit(450) connected to the control computer, and which inputs signals and displays operation information; a street lamp driving unit(480) for controlling power supplied to the street lamp, in accordance with the signal output from the control computer; a power unit for supplying power to each unit; and a circuit current sensing unit(490) for sensing current of a street lamp power circuit, and providing information to the control computer.
