PURPOSE: A background music performance system for a solo performer and a method therefor are provided to perform a background music of orchestra so that it is possible for the solo performer to practice like real performance by recognizing scores with several types, extracting music signs indicated on the scores and implementing sounds of musical instrument according to the extracted music signs. CONSTITUTION: A background music generator(100) scans a score, extracts music information about a musical instrument, a musical interval and a musical scale and performance information to be performed according to musical instruments from the scanned score, and stores music information and performance information. A performer terminal(200) receives music information and performance information stored in the background music generator, and outputs a background music.
