PURPOSE: A method of extending capability of a music apparatus by networking is provided to extend capabilities of a music apparatus such as an electronic musical instrument and a personal computer having function of an electronic musical instrument without any restriction from a local terminal to which the music apparatus is connected. CONSTITUTION: A network system is constructed for operating a music apparatus having a function as an electronic musical instrument(3) under control by a local terminal(2) which is communicable with a host computer(1) through a network. In the system, the host computer(1) is installed with a capability utilized to compute data effective to extent the function of the electronic musical instrument(3). The local terminal(2) is connectable to the host computer(1) through the network to remotely control the capability of the host computer(1) so as to compute the data prepared for the music apparatus. The local terminal(2) downloads the computed data from the host computer(1) into the music apparatus through the local terminal(2). The music apparatus operates according to the downloaded data to extend its own function as the electronic musical instrument(3). Further, the capability itself can be transferred from the host computer(1) to the music apparatus through the local terminal(2).
