PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for separating particles of compressed styrofoam waste are provided to easily separate each of styrofoam particles from waste styrofoam compressed to a certain volume to manufacture efficient and productive recycling expandable polystyrene beads. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for separating particles of compressed styrofoam waste comprises first and second crushers(10,20) for crushing compressed styrofoam waste; a friction separator(30) for separating a plurality of waste styrofoam particles into individual particles by friction rubbing the crushed waste styrofoam so that the crushed waste styrofoam is scattered into each particles of styrofoam; a sorter(40) for sorting particles of waste styrofoam discharged from the friction separator(30) per sizes; an underwater separator(50) for separating particles of waste styrofoam that are agglomerated and not sorted from the sorter(40) into individual particles using underwater vortex; a centrifugal dehydrator for dehydrating water contained in the individual particles of waste styrofoam discharged from the underwater separator(50); and a dryer for drying the centrifugal dehydrated individual particles of waste styrofoam, wherein the friction separator(30) comprises a body(33) comprising an injection port(31) and a discharge port, a rotation shaft(34), a driving means(35), a plurality of rotational friction plates(36), an impeller(37) and a plurality of fixed friction plates(38), and the underwater separator(50) comprises a plurality of underwater chambers(54,55,56,57) comprising an inlet(51), an outlet(52) and partition walls(53), the body of revolution(59) comprising an impeller(58), and a driving means.
