PURPOSE: A method for sensing existence of a document in an electronic copy machine is provided to check existence of a general document and a black color document by using only an angle switch and a document sensing sensor. CONSTITUTION: An angle switch(10) senses close and open states of a cover of the electronic copy machine and applies the sensed cover state value to a control member(30). A document sensing sensor(20) emits an electric wave to the document layed on a glass of the electronic copy machine, senses the existence of the document by an electric wave returned from the document and then applies the sensed document state value to the control member. The control member(30) combines the cove state values and document state value and then applies the combined data as control data. A memory member(40) stores the cove state values and document state value by control of the control member. A drive switch relay(50) is turned on/off according to the control data of the control member. A display member(60) displays the existence of a general document and a black color document according to the control data of the control member.
