PURPOSE: To provide a multi-staged phyto-reactive barrier capable of purifying ground water that is contaminated by various materials and a method for purifying the contaminated ground water by using the multi-staged phyto-reactive barrier, which is able to provide maximum purification efficiency with a minimum cost. CONSTITUTION: The phyto-reactive barrier comprises a first reactive barrier (1) where herbaceous purifying plants (11) are planted, a second reactive barrier (2) where woody purifying plants (21) are planted, a third reactive barrier (3) that includes an adsorption medium and a fourth reactive barrier (4) where the woody purifying plants are planted.
