FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; converter steel-making processes. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes introduction of metal scrap, lime additive and slag-forming material containing calcium and magnesium oxides into converter. Method includes also introduction of manganese-containing oxide material in the amount sufficient for keeping content of magnesium oxide in slag within 5-7%, pouring cast iron and blowing metal with oxygen. In the course of blowing, barium-containing oxide material is introduced into converter in the amount sufficient for obtaining contents of barium oxide in slag within 5-7%; blowing procedure is discontinued at temperature not exceeding 1650 C.
