FIELD: quantum electronics; generating extremely short optical pulses in superhigh-speed optical communications.;SUBSTANCE: first alternative method implies that desired-frequency beam produced by continuous laser that functions as exciting radiation is focused in cavity of definite frequency-dependent length thereby generating rotational Raman lines which resonate within cavity and generate extremely short pulses by means of phase lock. According to second alternative method two different-color laser beams separated at desired frequency-to-frequency distance that function as exciting radiation are focused within definite-length cavity thereby generating rotational Raman lines by means of quarter-wave Raman shift at the same time suppressing oscillatory Raman lines. Device implementing these methods has two lasers, two wavelength meters designed to check laser radiation wavelength, second wavelength meter, Raman cell, beam splitter designed to align two laser beams arriving from first and second lasers and to ensure their coaxial arrangement, as well as lens designed to focus laser beams in Raman cell.;EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.;6 cl, 8 dwg
