FIELD: apparatus for applying liquids or other fluent materials to surfaces.;SUBSTANCE: device has mechanism for horizontal doctoring unit movement, mechanism for vertical doctoring unit movement, doctoring unit body and two supports with spherical bases inserted in doctoring unit body. When doctoring unit blade is moved over substrate spring carriage resiliently presses supports to substrate by their spherical bases so that no gap is created in-between. Thickness of applied material layer is defined by setting gap between doctoring unit blade and tops of spherical support bases. Setting of above gap is carried out in gap calibration mechanism included in device. Gap calibration mechanism has plate for receiving doctoring unit supports, movable plate for supporting doctoring unit blade, zero position sensor and stepping motor. Movable support plate is connected to engine by wedge-like transmission converting rotary movement into translation movement.;EFFECT: provision of constant gap width and possibility of substrate irregularities detection due to contact between doctoring unit blade supports and substrate, elimination of errors appeared as a result of non-parallelism between doctoring unit blade and substrate and as a result of irregularities in substrate surface and in surface of guiding means along which carriage for doctoring unit securing is moved, possibility to obtain gap width deviation of not more than 1 μm.;2 cl, 4 dwg
