A method for finding and representing the contours of moving objects in the image sequences of a video camera, in particular a thermal imaging camera, with the following, within a cycle of a plurality of cycles carried out one after the process steps performed:– the image contents of a number of consecutive individual images are subjected to a fourier transformation, in that the image contents per single image in the same, in their totality of the individual image resulting image segments are subdivided and for the image segments of the individual images with the same image coordinates in each case, the spectra of the image contents are determined,– the power spectra with frequency band specific threshold values are compared and the threshold shoots in assignment to the image coordinates in the segment in the temporal sequence of last frame is inserted, whose enveloping a rough outline results, and– by subtracting a the static background in the form of the adaptive link of the image content of the in the temporal sequence of last single image within the enclosed by the rough outline is the object image region which surrounds a finely contour in the last single image in the temporal sequence inserted.
