Producing effervescent tablets (I), comprising forming an intimate premix of a solid acid and a liquid polyol, mixing with active agent(s), a carbonate and optionally further components, and directly pressing the mixture to tablets, is new. An Independent claim is included for an intimate premix for use in the process, comprising 97-99.7 %, by weight solid organic acid (preferably citric acid) and 0.3-3 %, by weight propylene glycol and/or glycerol.
