The edge detection device are two mutually parallel stop bars in one of the longitudinal booms holding the transparent plate and movable over the whole original area and two bar sensors. The device has an original carrier plate mounted in a frame that can be pressed against a stationery transparent plate mounted above it on the frame, a scanner housing (4) extending transversely over the transparent plate with its own drive arrangement (5), control electronics (E) and devices for detecting the leading and trailing edges of the original.
