The floating roof (1), operating on a lighter-than air principle has one or more buoyancy members which compensate the actual weight of the roof structure to enable the roof to float. The roof comprises individual modules each forming a stay and joint structure. The buoyancy members can be gas cells filled with helium. Vertical support stays can be tubular to act as ballast tank. The roof modules can be supported over the arena by holding masts (6) provided outside beyond the seating.
