The cylinder liner (20) is pressure diecast and reinforced during this by end moldings which are removed after casting. Cylinder (14) and liner (20) are closed up in part where they adjoin at the crankcase (16) at their endface using connecting walls which form part of the cylinder and here have a guide and/or free space along their center line for the mold vent pin. Reinforcing the liner is by means of an endface frame where it adjoins the cylinder head, the frame being thinwalled and later machined off after casting. The liner should be squeeze-cast or chill-cast.
