The spring cap (1) for a valve of an internal combustion engine is connected to the valve stem by intermediate components (4), with a valve spring (3) bearing on the edge of the valve plate. The thinly constructed wall of the spring cap has height variation, especially in sector fashion. The sections of the sectors (1a,1b) are differently profiled. Openings (12) are provided in the sections with low mechanical stresses. The spring cap has an inner cone. Adjacent sectors are constructed with a different width.
