The acidic galvanic bath electrolyte according to the invention for the deposition of satin nickel deposits has the advantage over known bath electrolytes that a long operating time or heating and cooling or filtration cycles is made possible, in which the filtration required for the ongoing operation of the bath can also be operated without activated carbon, the nickel concentration required to produce the satin luster is lower than in known baths and the sensitivity to introduced wetting agents is reduced. The bath contains at least one quaternary ammonium compound and at least one polyether with at least one strongly hydrophobic side chain.
