In a process to manufacture chipboard, a continuous loose web supply of pre-dried or dried wood fibre is wetted with an adhesive. The supply of loose chip web is esp. then submitted to very high pressure prior to the next process. During the compression stage, the mass of chips is subjected to further vibration caused by relative motion causing the adhesive to spread into pores between adjacent chips. The compressed pre-chipboard web material is further transported by suction action. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly with a fibre compression station located between an inlet and an outlet. The assembly has two or more inlet shafts, a wetting station, and a conveyer either side of and in-line with the compression station.
