The method involves applying (E) an impact reproducible in strength and pulse shape to a defined point on the rock surface and applying at least one measurement transducer (B) at defined distances from the impact point that receives direct and reflected sound in solids from the impact point and evaluates the amplitudes and pulse shapes thereof. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for non-destructive testing of natural and artificial rocks with low penetration depth.
