Conjugated phosphorescent and luminescent polymers containing covalently-bonded metal complexes, useful as emitters in light-emitting systems such as diodes and displays

Phosphorescent polymers (PP) which are conjugated and neutral and contain at least one covalently-bonded phosphorescent metal complex (PMC). Independent claims are also included for (1) luminescent polymers (LP) containing a conjugated main chain and covalently-bonded metal complex(es), in which the luminescence is a combination of the fluorescence of the main chain and the phosphorescence of the complex(es); (2) a method for the production of (PP) or (LP) by complexing uncomplexed ligand polymers with iridium(III), platinum(II), osmium(II) or rhodium(III) precursor complexes; (3) electroluminescent arrays containing (PP) or (LP); and (4) a method for the production of electroluminescent elements in such arrays by the application of (PP) or (LP) from solution.
