The bumper has a cross member (1) fixable transversely to the longitudinal members (7,8) of the vehicle frame. The cross member is a hollow chamber profile with swages (13, 14) at the end sections (11) which in turn are made of several separate longitudinal chambers. The front side (2) of the cross member remote from the longitudinal members and the rear side (9) facing the longitudinal members are connected together in the region of at least one of the swages.
