Production of a diffusion reflector comprises forming a ceramic blank from highly pure aluminum oxide in a low temperature sintering step, coating with a glaze emulsion or suspension, drying and post-sintering with a highly transparent glaze. The aluminum oxide is compacted before sintering using a stamp and a die or by isostatic pressing, over-saturating with water and drying. An independent claim is also included for a diffusion reflector produced as described.
