Making fibre-reinforced polypropylene with improved impact strength involves melt-compounding and tempering in an extruder with filaments of highly-crystalline polymer, e.g. polyethylene naphthalate
A method for making fibre-reinforced polypropylene (PP) with high impact strength involves adding filaments of highly-crystalline poly(ethylene-2,6-naphthalate), poly(dimethylcyclohexyl terephthalate) and/or LCP-modified polyethylene to PP granules in an extruder or plasticizers and inducing post-crystallisation by tempering, with a nucleating action on the PP matrix.
