An optoelectronic movement sensor has a polished glass measurement plate (2) with three mutually offset rows (6a, b, c) of slits lit by different colored light (4a, b, c) and exposed by the sharp edged slot (5) in a moving sampling plate (1) to make diffraction slits (b1, 2, 3) with sensor and processor to calculate the movement from the diffraction pattern.
