Automatic clutch control system for road vehicle to optimize pulling away from rest has speed sensors on engine and output drive to regulate clutch and keep engine speed within given limits
The control system automatically regulates engine speed and clutch slip while the vehicle starts to move forward. At time (t1) the driver wishes to move forward and opens the throttle valve (dki,1). The engine speed (3) rises toward a curve for the maximum allowed speed (5) and clutch engagement starts at time (t2). The engine speed rises slowly, crossing from above to below the ideal engine speed line (2), until it reaches the curve for minimum allowed engine speed (4) at time (t3). The vehicle starts to move forward at time (t4) and accelerates (6) with clutch slip gradually ceasing at time (t5). Other curves are given for abnormal operating conditions.
