Method for detecting multiple pull-offs, i.e. when two or more documents such as banknotes or checks have been pulled from a pile simultaneously. Accordingly each document (1) is illuminated with electromagnetic radiation and the radiation transmitted through the document is measured in at least two areas (2, 3) corresponding to those through which transmitted radiation varies most dependent on whether it is passing through one or more documents. An Independent claim is made for a device for detection of multiple pull-offs with a radiation source (5), a radiation detector (6) and an evaluation unit (10).
