Heavy duty dowel comprises a sleeve-type dowel body (7a) axially penetrated by a threaded rod (11) and provided with an expansion body (12) connected to the threaded rod and arranged on the front side of the region of the dowel point (8) for expanding the dowel body. At the other end of the dowel body an abutment body (18) connected to the threaded rod can be axially displaced in the dowel body by rotating the threaded rod. The dowel body is a one-piece tube (7) that receives the abutment body on the front end opposite the dowel point. The abutment body is provided with recesses on its first outer front side (20) which are used to engage a tool to prevent twisting during assembly. Preferred Features: The recesses are blind holes. The tube, expansion body, abutment body and threaded rod are made of high strength stainless steel.
