The hydrodynamic torque converter (1) has a turbine wheel (2), pump wheel (3), fixed stator (4) and a converter lockup clutch (6). The discs (7) of the lockup clutch are not cooled with oil from the torque converter's hydrodynamic circuit and therefore heat dissipation takes place independently of the field surrounding the lockup clutch. A passage (8) is provided in the pump wheel for the feed of oil to the disc, and cooled oil is fed directly into the disc space (12) via drillings (9) in the end plate (10) or cover (11).
