A process for preparation of nanocellular polymer foams involving:(a) cooling of a dispersion of polymers in a sublimable dispersion agent over a maximum of 10 seconds to a temperature below the m.pt. of the dispersion agent to give a frozen mixture and (b) removal of the dispersion agent by freeze drying to give the nanocellular polymer foam is new Independent claims are included for: (1) a nanocellular foam obtained as above; (2) a shaped part obtained from the nanocellular polymer foam.
