A carrier for a biological sample, to be cut by laser micro-dissection, is on a freely clamped film which is absorbent to laser light, and fitted to a frame holder. The holder is generally the wall of a Petri dish, with a base which is wholly or partially missing to be replaced by the film, in a thickness of 1.35 microns or 2.5 microns, welded to the Petri dish wall or bonded by an adhesive.
