Mixtures of cellulose ethers are based on cellulose ethers (I) with 50-500 anhydroglucose units (AGU) and a chain of 0-4 ethyleneoxy, 0-4 propylene-2-oxy and 0-4 2-hydroxypropylene-1-oxy groups to an average of over 1.3 and under 4.5 polyalkylene oxide chains per AGU. The mixtures contain (A) allyl-modified (I) with 0.01-0.1 allyl groups per AGU and (B) unmodified (I) in an A:B weight ratio of 1:99 to 99:1. Mixtures of cellulose ethers contain (A) allyl-modified cellulose ethers of formula (1), with an average of 0.01-0.1 allyl groups per anhydroglucose unit (AGU), and (B) cellulose ethers of formula (1) in an A:B weight ratio of 1:99 to 99:1: C6H7O2 = one AGU; n = 50-500; R1, R2, R3 = a polyalkylene oxide chain of formula (2) with oxyalkylene units in any sequence; X = H, CH3, C2H5 in (A) and (B) or, in (A) only, CH2HC=CH2; p, q, r = 0-4; (p+q+r) = over 1.3 and under 4.5 on average per AGU .
